The Cindy Sherman Effect
“Cindy changed all women’s lives—she put names to the stereotypes associated with women by making pictures of them. When you can name something, you can laugh at it.”
I found this interesting because Cindy used her artwork to make women feel comfortable about themselves and she even used her artwork in a form of expressing, this also could have been used as a form of expression for other women, allowing her work to say things without really saying them.
“She was the first woman who empowered women at the time. Being a woman is an identity problem. We are all every single one of those women that Cindy created.”
I agree with this because being a woman can be hard at times. We tend to always worry about our appearance and how people view us, and we also tend to try to meet societies expectations to make us feel comfortable with ourselves. Cindy wanted to make women feel comfortable with who they are and to not be afraid to speak up about anything.

“A new contract needs to be written for her recent work, however. We come to it for the disbelief, to marvel at how a face can be so manipulated and somehow still be legible, even familiar”.
It is interesting how although Cindy had a twist on her artwork it was still recognizable. That is what makes her work stand out from the rest.

I like how Sherman allows her audience to use their own imagination to create their own meaning to her pieces. A lot of people have different perspectives so it is interesting to know what others think and how they may perceive
